Have been reading through my collection of PJ O'Rourke and I came upon the following article.
It relates to the 1986 Filipino election and the rampant electoral fraud that took place
this particular section concerns a walk out by the officials charged with entering the data for the electoral results
"Kerry later said that he didn't talk to the comelec employees then because he wasn't allowed to. This is ridiculous. He was ushered into an area that had been cordoned off form the press and the crowd and where the computer operators were sitting. To Talk to the women all he would have had to do was raise his voice. Why he was reluctant, I can't tell you. I can tell you what any red-blooded representative of the US government should have done. He should have shouted "If you're frightened for your safety, I'll take you to the American embassy, and damn the man who tries to stop me." But all Kerry did was walk around like a male model in a concerned and thoughtful pose"
It kind of sums up his comitment to emerging democracy

Sex and the city
One of the great things about where i live is the abundance of free entertainment it provides. tonight was no different, with my house mate being questioned by plainclothes cops before they raided the brothel next door to us.
Damn but i love living in the city.

Zen and the art of bicycle maintenance
having spent a good part of the last week rebuilding an old road bike i have come to a sobering realisation - i have spent all of my drinks fund on bike parts
hopefully it will be worth all the effort and expense, though i have a nagging suspicion that i would have been better of just buying a second hand bike
ah well, we shall see
